What to verify before treating the result as complete
- Verify the person. Verify the match against the identifiers around the record: compare middle names, dates, places, and the unique identifier attached to the record before carrying the result into another system.
- Read the result. PATCH can return No Record immediately, but Request Under Review requires manual checking and is not proof of a criminal record. Wait for the final No Record or Record response; an instant completed result is not guaranteed.
- Check the charge. The individual criminal-history check costs $22; qualifying volunteer checks are free. Online credit-card transactions carry a 2% fee; registered-user and mail requests paid by check are excepted from that transaction fee.
- Retrieve and validate. Print the final certificate yourself. Use Record Check Status with the control number, subject name exactly as submitted, and request date; open the control number and Certification Form. A No Items Found status calls for checking the search entries, not assuming a clear record.
